How phone trade-ins (swaps) work
In a swap, a customer gives you their old phone as part payment for a new one. You agree a value for the old phone, take it off the price, and the customer pays the rest.
A swap, step by step
- Check the old phone: screen, battery, camera, buttons, and whether it is locked to an account.
- Agree a value: what you could sell it for, minus repairs and your margin.
- Record its details: name, IMEI or serial, condition and the agreed value.
- Take the value off the price: the customer pays the difference.
- Put the old phone in stock: it becomes something you can sell next.
How StockSwift handles swaps
- On New Sale, tap "Add swap item" and enter the old phone's details and value.
- The swap value comes off what the customer owes.
- The old phone is added to your inventory automatically, with its value as its cost.
- The receipt shows the swapped item, and your dashboard shows the swap value for each sale.
Tips for valuing phones
- Check the IMEI by dialling *#06# and make sure it matches the phone's settings.
- Make sure the customer has signed out of iCloud or Google before you accept it.
- Be honest about condition — it sets the price you can sell it for later.
